Between the Door and the Staircase

November 2008
for piccolo, live electronics and stage actions

This is a somewhat theatrical piccolo piece in which the player will have a lot of choices to take. The piece will be greatly different depending who is playing and probably at each performance of the same player.

Score

This is some extracts of my work in max/MSP for that piece. You will there hear my great sound on the piccolo... I blew in a piccolo for the first time compose do this piece...

Massing

November 2008
for Viola and live electronics

Massing is a semi-improvised piece in which the viola player must follow one of many possible paths through some textures.

The effects generated from the viola sounds include 16 loops with durations between 5 and 20 second which create massings of moving sounds.

This is the score of Massing.

This is a recording of the pre-première 17th April 2010, that was done on a 5 strings electric violin by Christine Caulfield in Second-Life.

Carols Démontés

I don’t like Carols. In fact, it is not their fault. I hate the over-consuming atmosphere of Christmas. Everywhere you pass you have a huge Christmas tree, a huge present, a huge Christmas sold sign, a huge Santa Claus, and too many people in the shops, because they follow this over-consuming idea, and to attract them, shops put louder then the nearest other shop; Carols. It is very hard for me to dissociate Carols from this atmosphere, it is why, sometime, when I hear Carols, I feel sick.

I decided to play with popular Carols. I had a lot more fun with Carols like that! Maybe it is a sort of remedy?

(score) Here parts for any ensemble. The idea is to have the beginning and the boxes I, II, III and finale in the same key for all the ensemble, but, to play the Carols Box in a lot of different keys. Many thanks at Tom Whitehouse for the translation clumsy English to good English

Something for Coma

November 2007
for flexible ensemble: piccolo (or a recorder), at least 3 flutes, at least 4 other winds, piano, other instruments (facultative), at least 4 strings

Something for Coma is a short simple piece. I wrote it for a special event of Coma London; a workshop gived by Dave Smith.

-> Coma London used to have up to 7 flutes, it is why I wrote something with a lot of flutes. Sadly the day of the recording, just one flutist was there(and just 2 woodwinds). I’m quite disappointed by that because I based this piece on a chord of flute in the low register, and a chord of one note is a bit thin.
