Midi controlled stepper motors

Well, the happy technical news is that Arduino Leonardo is actually compatible with Teensyduino using TeeOnArdu.

So I made midi stepper motors today. I used them here with a QuNeo, and the pressure controls the speed.

Well, to achieve that I could use gear dc motors and it would have been faster to program. I assumed that the torque is higher at slow speed with a stepper. But, really, I do prefer the look of them, and mostly, I think the sound of them works better with what I am going to do. And as it is all about sound, so, that is important.

Il me fallait un calepin. Un tour dans la haute ville m’a inspiré quelques idées.

Je suis retournée dans l’espace qui donne son nom à ce lieu. Une chambre blanche. Le blanc me donne envie de travailler aussi la lumière. J’espère en avoir le temps.

Enfin, c’est sérieux, il y aura bientôt des affiches pour le 5à7 d’ouverture de ma résidence dans Québec. Alors, si vous êtes à Québec, le 4 février, faut passer me dire bonjour.

It is interesting to listen to 3D printers and laser cutters. They are doing all sort of interesting melodies. Actually the laser cutter sounds like a cello that is played in another room while you are vacuuming. Curious. I like it. It is really interesting to think that the actual shapes you are making are the score. Surely someone already made music with them.

Residency at La Chambre Blanche - day 1

First day in residence à La Chambre Blanche. Staff are really welcoming. I had a more detailed and technical tour with Cédric, the Lab coordinator. So I have even more ideas to add to the long lists of ideas, and things to learn that I already had before coming here. So, I started to work with motors on a piece of metal I cut a few weeks ago.

Robert Jarvis, an artist that I think a lot of, and a friend, told me that I should do a blog during my residency, that it would leave a trace of the process. Well, even if I think that a blog is so 2005, I might follow his advice, just because, well, he plays the trombone.
