Biographie 300 mots

Sonia, Québécoise et Européenne, adore les collaborations avec les autres artistes. Elle a fait de la musique pour des oeuvres d’art, des installations, du théâtre et pour la danse contemporaine. Dans ses créations solos, la musique est toujours l’élément central. Elle travaille entre autre avec des instruments non-conventionnels (CAM, pour sept joueurs de carte de métro, 2001, Sans escalier pour slinky solo, 2004, Pedalling Under London’s Clouds, bicyclette solo et projection, 2008). Elle intègre volontiers l’aspect théâtral de la musique et l’improvisation à ses pièces (Improvisations sur les cinq sens pour piano, soprano, violoncelle, percussions, bande, traitement en temps réel, cornemuse et auto télécommandée, 2004 et Eau pour chanteuse sous la douche et eau traitée, 2005). Sonia a étudié la composition avec Michel Tétreault, José Evangelista, Michel Smith, Michel Longtin et Jean Picher, a étudié à l’Université de Montréal en composition mixte et a participé à des stages à l’Ircam, Paris et avec Numediart, Mons. Attirée par les nouvelles technologies, elle ne se prive pas, si artistiquement nécessaire, d’utiliser le traitement en temps réel (Soupirs, pour clarinette et accompagnement d’effet sonore, 2005, Il temps-te, pour cornet, flugle, trompette piccolo, trompette et déplaceur de sons un soupçon de théâtralité, 2006) Sonia Paço-Rocchia fait aussi des installations sonores interactives (Installation sonore sur le slinky, instruments fait à partir de slinkies, 2004 et 2010, Installation sonore sur S’enfeuiller, installation sons et éclairage, interactif, 2006).

À Londres, Sonia joue avec le London Improviser Orchestra comme bassoniste improvisatrice. Elle joue aussi solo ou en petits ensembles: instruments non-conventionnels, voix, basson le tout avec traitement en temps réel.
